27" Monitor - Computer Setup

Comments

And that's why when I worked retail and those were put on display, we all called them the dildo speakers. Couldn't help but chuckle any time I saw someone leave with them.
If you were him, you wouldn't have to ask that question.
They're Soundsticks. Really cool, I'm guessing the big clear bass speaker is not pictured.
I can't believe he actually just said "bass speaker."
What a fucking idiot, right?
It's right under the desk.
The speakers look like... speakers...
But do the schnozberries taste like schnozberries?
Fun fact: a character in House of Cards has the same speakers
Dust II, bomb defused. Counter-Terrorists win.
Why the fuck was no one watching Cat?!
Spilled liquids, flying bugs, pets, curious small children.
Not too bad. I swiffer it every once in awhile and keep a can of air behind the monitor. I like the routine better than opening up a case every month.
I'd worry about a stray house fly getting a tad too curious with my GPU fan.
I'd get it on high speed video.
I'd get it on 4k high speed video.
That looks like a testing bench, not really designed for permanent use.
How much is that bench?
I paid $80 through a friend who bought 2 during a Newegg sale.
Any negatives on using it as a dedicated case? i like the look of it.
None so far. I could see potential problems if you have small children or position it in a spot where items can fall on it. If you have a fairly loud video card or HSF, it could get a little loud (see R29x series) too.
Huh, sounds like a very good option. Thanks.
There's no protection for the motherboard and everything attached directly to it so you have to be careful and make sure you never drop anything on it. Cut a trace and your motherboard is trash. Dust and noise also come to mind.
The major negative is you have not set air flow. There is no dedicated intake of cold air and output of warm air. If you plan to use your rig like this in the long term you will severely shorten the life of your parts.
I ran a test bench for years with no issues... You can strategically place fans to provide airflow to components
Warm air rises cold air falls
This is horribly and completely wrong. The air will move just fine through a test bench. The only cause of concern is there is no protection for your parts.
Damn. so thats not even full price. :l that would have been REALLY nice to grab for cheap..
I'm always wondering ... don't the usa have laws about this? I mean noone is gonna come to my house and check for it until there really is a neighbour complaining, but its not allowed to beam your electromagnetic rays just all over the place.
ITT: A lot of young people who never heard of electromagnetic interference and do not want to learn anything.
Wat. There is no danger from electromagnetic rays. Every electronics device sold in the USA has been certified by the FCC not to cause interfence with other devices. (but we can't use cellphones on airplanes because the FAA says it might crash the plane even though the FCC already makes sure our devices can't do that.)
I beg you to find any evidence of this.
You beg me to give you evidence that circuit paths on PCBs, which are pumped full of hundreds of watts, are antennas? Seriously? Is this a trick question?
No one is suggesting that electronic devices don't emit some amount of radiation, but it is negligible, and certainly not going to disrupt your other electronic devices, and certainly not those of your neighbors. Unless you have a PCI-E radar dish. I've always wanted one of those, you know, to detect enemy aircraft.
He is a troll.. stop feeding him.
He isn't is the thing. His profile is completely legitimate.
TIL:I want a PCI-e radar dish.
The ECM doesnt matter... its so low its negligable plus everything is FCC(UF?) certified...so it doesnt matter :D
No, that is not required. Example:
Its obviously implied. There is no need to write that the device is only to operate as designed.
Pretty sure the computer's components aren't emitting any weird radiation. The case is really to protect the components.
Only people who use open cases.
If you take the side panel off you might as well be Hitler himself.
Holy shit, this is the funniest thing I've read all day.
I'm glad that the local fools amused you.
Yes and might I add you did quite a good job of it too.
The highest frequency you see is given off usb3 cables, and that can't penetrate more then 5cm of air
Someone has their tinfoil hat on too tight!
...are you in the wrong thread? What does a test bench have to do with EM interference?
This thread has been linked to from elsewhere on coolcomputersetups.
Im guessing you dont have any pets? :P
Is that the korean 27" 1440p monitor?
I'm thinking about getting that one. What is your opinion of it? Does it have any stuck pixels or would the pixel perfect edition be a good idea?
Best monitor you can buy for around $300. I ordered 2 non pixel perfect editions, one for work and the one pictured here, and both arrived without any dead pixels. One of them had some minor back-light bleeding which was only noticeable in the corner when the screen was black, but that was easily fixed by taping the panel.
Is there a built in gamma adjustment setting on the monitor itself?
Just basic brightness and volume buttons along with the power. No on screen menu.
I believe it is. I have the same one.
Is that desk custom made?
Nah, just a cheap Ikea desk. Looking to upgrade soon.
What don't you like about it ?
Hey! I have that desk and I love it! I thought it was way nicer than cheap ha, wasn't expecting the quality (first ikea purchase).
Ive heard IKEA's quality is bad, but is it THAT bad?
I love my gallant, its quite nice
No, I was expecting it to be crappy and I'm really surprised by it. I couldn't find a desk in this price range that wasn't utter shit.
Huh, thanks for the feedback man!
How much more does the slide out portion go? I was looking at that desk this morning. I have a triple monitor setup and would like to have room for a laptop on the side, too. Having some desk space for writing and reading books food and other junk would also be nice...
The slide out table is a little over two feet, and maybe over 15" wide. On the desk part I can comfortably fit a 27" monitor and a 20" as well as my full tower on it, push my keyboard up and use a medium sized wacom tablet. I also have an over-sized mouse pad that is a good length of the desk. The little table comes in handy more than you would think - and if you have cats it is perfect for them. Out of my business and on to their own.
It does have a red wire and a blue wire...
I have to ask about those speakers. I see a lot of stations with them. What are they and how well do they work?
I believe they're Harman Kardon Sounsticks III. I've heard them before and they aren't really anything special. They are on par with Logitech 2.1 systems but with a better brand name and transparent housing.
$150 retail for a freaking 2.1 system? damn.
Harman Kardon is not really known for their value.. more of a luxury brand. They do all the stock speakers in BMW's
They aren't gonna blow your mind, but they are pretty great speakers, mine get mistreated all the time, and they still work after who knows how long.
How do you 'mistreat' dildo shaped speakers all the time?
Correct. Nothing special but they get the job done when I rarely use the speakers. Most of the time I'm using my headset or my ATH-M50's with the FiiO E7 w/ the dock.
Have those headphone's love em, had that amp for my ipod too but upgraded to the E11, but why do you need them for a PC?
I work for the parent company Harman, those sticks are eyebrow-raisingly powerful for what they are. I would own them.
And if you curious at all the speakers on the right are from Polk Audio and the amp is Marantz.
Wrong. I looks like THE bomb.
Exposed color-coded wires? Must be a bomb.
I understand that benchmark cases are cool, it's just not a practical case for permanent use. Risk damaging your hardware.
What do you think about the m50 alone vs m50 with the fiio?
Really good. The reason I went with the FiiO combo was because my on-board soundcard sucks and causes a lot of interference. Having a better DAC outside the computer makes a huge difference. It also allows me to hook up my speakers for superior sound bypassing the sound card. The portable amp is a plus when using a tablet or cell phone.
Ok, thanks! Sweet setup btw
Forgot to mention the amp really drives the sound and makes the bass and treble tighter along with providing distortion free loudness. Hardware control over sound > software.
Thats great to hear. I read that the m50s didnt benfit from an amp/dac (that much), but I really want to try it out
Because the m50s have low impedance, an amp really isn't required like for other higher impedance phones. A good DAC on the other hand always makes things better.
Ok. thanks for the imput!
No pun intended, I promise
What GPU is that? I could make out the "GTX 7--" but not much else.
Wouldn't this lead to cooling issues? I was under the impression that cases were designed with airflow in mind, and that components were designed to work with proper airflow that would be supplied by a case. I mean, I do an external test with everything I build, but it's never more than a function check.
Actually, I was surprised that it runs much cooler outside the case. I even had a great Cooler Master case with lots of fans. We'll see how it goes this summer.
That's pretty awesome, then, and blows my mind a little bit. If I didn't have a cat, well, I'd still be too chicken to use this as more than a testing station, but it's still pretty slick.
I used the T60 (that case) in a house with two cats. They were supremely uninterested in it.
I've been looking at this desk, would you recommend it?
WOOOO go harmon/kardon! I have one of their 5.1s for my pc
Why do I want that bench so bad
Bomb defused. Counter Terrorists win!
Well, I sure wouldn't try and go through airport security with it.
You can most definitely bring metal through airport security.
I take it you refuse to accept the existence of cases...
You just need a menacing looking 8-segment digital countdown screen saver, and you're all set.
Your brother has been watching too many thriller movies :P
Is it noisy? I think water would be great to reduce the noise. But may be a little pricey depending on your budget. If it bothers you that is! Sweet rig!
Nice! Same mouse, same mouse pad. Sadly PC is not the same...
I'm pretty sure he means your computer, not your computer setup.
Have you ever considered.. you know... a case?
I saw a guy who built a machine onto his wall. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. The tech looks beautiful, and a clear glass pane doesn't do it justice.
Like the maxxplank, currently the top bookmarkd post of this coolcomputersetups?
I haven't a clue, I just saw it on this coolcomputersetups and it looked awesome.
